Burford School present Hairspray
Startech productions have just finished an exciting project with Burford school where they supplied all technical aspect of the production from the design stage right through to the installation & the supervision of students operating the equipment for the performances.
The lighting rig for the event included 16 moving head lights including a mixture of ‘traditional’ Martin products (Mac 250+, Mac 300, Mac700 profile) and LED based moving heads (MTM 324W) along with LED PAR cans, and LED colour bars, which were intergrated into the Set.
The rig also used an array of traditional fixtures including over 2 dozen parcans, and a mix of profiles and fresnels.
Startech staff rigged and focused the lighting and plotted the show (over 300 cues) and supervised a school student operating the desk during the performances.
The audio system was made up of a combination of Turbosound front of house, and Martin Audio monitoring, all controlled by a 48 channel Soundcraft desk. The production used 16 radio microphones and had a close mic’d 13 piece pit band. An off stage backing vocal booth was also set up to boost the sound for the chorus numbers.

Under close supervision from a member of Startech staff, the audio from the show was operated by a student from the school.
Startech also provided a complete custom AV solution so that the musical director (working from off stage areas) could monitor the performance, whilst the musicians (split into two offstage areas) the chorus (also often offstage) and the performers on stage had a visual relay from the musical director.
All six of the performances were a great success, and we look forward to supplying Burford school with equipment and technical expertise again for both their upcoming battle, and their summer festival.
